Insane Going Away
Today I hit a combined gold total (liquid; assets are mostly glyphs, so hard to say how much they’re worth) of 504,000 gold. No useful information here, except that glyphs are still selling. Averaging 37g per glyph at the moment, despite lowering my threshold, which has resulted in more sales. Halfway to the Cataclysm gold cap!
In other news – and this is really news – Insane in the Membrane will not be completable come Cataclysm. Ghostcrawler himself pronounced it dead at Blizzcon Saturday afternoon, because of changes to the Bloodsail faction. He said that if there’s enough demand they’ll make something equally brutal for Cataclysm; but it seems that come the sundering (4.0.3), which could be in just a couple weeks, you will lose your chance to get the Insane title.
I’ve always kept that grind as something to do one day – I got the Bloodsail and Darkmoon Faire already. The Goblin part I thought would become much easier in Cata, with new Goblin quests to do especially in the much-changed Tanaris and Stranglethorn. Oh, and you DO NOT have to have Bloodsail at Honored and Steamwheedle Cartel factions at Exalted at the same time. The following script will create a macro (assuming you have a free slot); use the macro and it’ll show you your progress on the Feat of Strength (the same window you normally see with achievements, but hidden because this is a Feat of Strength). When I used it, it showed I had progress for the Bloodsail at honored despite my rep with them being fully Hated at the moment.
/run CreateMacro(“INSANE”, 2, “/say “..GetAchievementLink(2336), nil, 1)
I’m certainly not going to have time to try for the rest of the reputations, but anyone who is close will be rushing to do so. That means that there’s an opportunity here for gold-making. Pristine black diamonds are the most obvious and probably best item to look for – try to get them for market value (or slightly above), if you can, before word about Insane spreads – because then the price on these should skyrocket. Imagine how much you’d be willing to pay for some of these if you’re already most of the way done with the achievement and just need a few more diamonds. They’ve been going for 350g on Emerald Dream alliance; I can see people paying at least 1000g each. I have, therefore, been grabbing all of them.
Other possible money-makers are the Librams, though of course handling those is annoying due to being unique, and heavy junkboxes. I don’t know firsthand how many junkboxes a rogue can farm in an hour, but Googling suggests between 50 and 100, depending on your skills. I can see junkbox prices going up to 25g each, possibly more, and people wanting to buy them in huge volumes. So you could go out and farm yourself, and get very good gold/hour out of it, or just try to find a rogue willing to farm them for less.
